TYLER’S STORY One day a 10 year old boy named Tyler Page was watching an episode on Oprah. The episode was about how kids in Ghana were treated when their parents didn’t have money to support them. Then Tyler said, “Mom pause the show, I’ve got an idea.” Tyler’s idea was to help the kids in Ghana who weren’t getting freedom and were sold for as little as $20.
The kids in Ghana were very poor and were sold to strangers for money. The kids were also forced to work twelve hours a day and only had one meal. The kids also have to work in harsh conditions , they have to swim in really cold and deep water to catch fish. Some of these kids were to young and would drown. I once heard a little boy say "Mommy , mommy no please , i don't want to leave you!'' when the mom was selling her child. The mom replied " Sorry son it's for my good."
Tyler then started an organization called Kids Helping Kids With Nothing. Tyler aftarwards began to face some obstacles. The obstacles were that he found it very hard to get people to donate money or to help in the organization. Some people didn't even know anything about it! So Tyler began to wonder what he could do. He told his mom "Hhmmm i think i should put flyers all over the town!" So he did and he waited and many people called saying,"Hello i saw your flyer and i just wanted to donated $100." Tyler soon began to raise a lot of money. Then one week later after lot of calls willing to donate , Bill Gates called!
Tyler picked up the phone and Bill said '' Hello young man this is Bill Gates and i want to donate for your organization." Tyler quickly said "Yes yes thank you." Bill Gates came to Tyler's house and gave him $10,000! Tyler said "Thank you , thank you so much." Tyler then donated the money to the organization. Then a lot of people started to donate after he had spread the word along with Bill. After three years of hard work and a lot of donations ,Tyler finally got a lot of money.
The money got to Ghana and Tyler met his goal of saving many kids from one year of slavery. Tyler was really proud of himself for reaching one million dollars and is continuing with his incredible journey with higher goals.
